Seiko was started in 1881 by Kintaro Hattori. Seiko started to produce clocks soon after the formation of the company. The name means exquisite. Seiko Watches started to be produced sometime around 1924. Seiko went on to produce the first quartz Seiko Watch in 1969. Seiko Watches are well known for timekeeping accuracy and cost effectiveness. In fact the Seiko Watch is often a symbol of official time keeping and Seiko is often used as the official timekeeper for sporting events. .
Seiko is clearly best known for its Seiko Watch. They are considered inexpensive watches. The Seiko Watch has quartz models as well as mechanical models. Seiko Watches can be as inexpensive as $50. Seiko Watches are found throughout the world although several lines are more powerful lines such as Seiko Kinetic.
Seiko is also responsible for the Pulsar Brand of watches which is available in the U.S. Most Seiko Watch items and Seiko Watches are sold by local jewelry stores in the U.S. Seiko Watches have been worn by high profile celebrities in movies most notably James Bond has worn Seiko Watches.
Seiko has launched several products over the past 20 years and most recently in 2005, Seiko launched a new Seiko Watch called the Seiko Spring Drive. This Seiko Watch is a limited production watch with only 300 units slated for production per month. Seiko also plans on selling this Seiko Watch for over $3,000 which is a first for Seiko. This will put some Seiko Watches in the same price range as Rolex.
